Golf Ball Fitting Quiz: 68% of Golfers Under 85 MPH Want More Distance, Compared With 14% Above 110 MPH

Salt Lake City, Utah – September 29, 2026 – Golf ball fitting quiz takers want different things from a golf ball depending on how fast they swing. BallCaddie, an independent golf ball fitting site, published self-reported answers from 2,601 golfers on September 28, 2026, broken down by swing speed and handicap.
What the golfers said
- Distance matters most at slower speeds. 68% of golfers who swing under 85 mph want more distance off the tee. Above 110 mph, 14% do.
- Faster players want accuracy. 53% of golfers above 100 mph want straighter drives, compared with 21% of golfers under 85 mph.
- A slight right turn is the most common ball flight. 43% of all golfers say the ball flies mostly straight with a slight right turn. Another 28% say it curves right with a fade or slice.
- Fades and slices drop as handicaps fall. 39% of golfers with a handicap of 16 or higher report a fade or slice, compared with 15% of golfers with a handicap of 8 or lower.
- Nearly half don’t care about feel. 49% say feel doesn’t matter to them, and 35% prefer a soft feel.
“Golfers under 85 mph told us they want distance, and golfers above 110 mph told us they want straighter drives,” said Garrett Pierson, founder of BallCaddie.com. “Those goals can point to different balls, so the quiz asks about swing speed and ball flight before it recommends one.”
How the data was collected
The numbers come from golfers who completed BallCaddie’s golf ball fitting quiz and answered questions on swing speed, handicap, ball flight, tee-shot goals and feel. The answers are self-reported and were not measured on a launch monitor. Group sizes: 627 golfers under 85 mph, 1,241 at 85-99 mph, 556 at 100-110 mph and 177 above 110 mph.
