Annual 5K/10K Race and Community Resource Fair Returns to Los Gatos to Expand Housing and Support Services for Adults with I/DD
CAMPBELL, CA, UNITED STATES, August 18, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Life Services Alternatives (LSA), a Santa Clara County nonprofit providing lifelong housing and care for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), will hold its 7th Annual Run Home 5K/10K on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Vasona Lake County Park in Los Gatos, CA, with race kick-off at 9:00 AM.
Adults with I/DD remain one of most underserved populations, struggling to find accessible housing, personalized support, and opportunities to contribute in their community. Run Home was built to help change that.
Every step expands opportunities for this community to live, contribute, and have the support to lead their own life. More than a race, Run Home is a movement to stand alongside people with I/DD, celebrate inclusion, and move for change. Together, we can build a future where every person, regardless of ability, isn’t just included, but seen, heard, and empowered.
The spirit behind Run Home began with one family’s search for a safe and permanent home for their daughter, Sitara Ranganathan. After she moved into an LSA home in 2015, her father, Ramaswamy, joined LSA’s Board of Directors in 2020 and launched the inaugural Run Home event—combining his 40-year passion for distance running with LSA’s mission.
“When Sitara faced serious medical challenges, the LSA care staff treated her like their own family,” said Ramaswamy Ranganathan, LSA Board Member and Founder of Run Home. “As parents, one of our greatest worries was who would care for our daughter when we no longer could. LSA gave Sitara a thriving home and a second family. Run Home is our way of ensuring other families facing the same uncertainty can find that same hope, security, and community.”
This year’s Run Home carries special significance as LSA honors the life and legacy of our beloved community member Sitara, whose journey inspired not only her family, but the creation of this community event.
Alongside the race, LSA will host a free Community Resource Fair, open to the public from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The fair connects local families with service providers, nonprofits, and community partners dedicated to supporting individuals with I/DD throughout Santa Clara County.
Join LSA in making inclusion visible. Whether participating as a runner, walker, stroller pusher, or wheelchair athlete, Run Home 2026 welcomes people of all ages and abilities to participate in the 5K or 10K courses along the scenic trails of Vasona Lake County Park. All registered runners and walkers receive a commemorative race t-shirt and finisher medal.
